Suspect in NSA incident in custody; 1 officer injured

A man collided with a barrier at the NSA headquarters' gate and gunshots were fired.

Updated 10:02 a.m. : The NSA said that one of their officers was injured, and all injuries related to the incident were caused by the vehicle and not gunshots, sources told ABC News.

Though the gates to the NSA’s campus are clearly marked, drivers sometimes take the wrong exit and end up at the tightly secured gates. In an incident in 2015, one person died after NSA security opened fire at a car that had breached the barrier to the campus, apparently mistakenly. They were in a car that was reported stolen. They were both transgender sex workers.

Original story: At least one person was wounded in a possible shooting incident outside the National Security Agency’s Fort Meade campus in Maryland Wednesday morning, according to early media reports. The alleged shooter has reportedly been taken into custody.

The suspect reportedly ran an SUV into a barrier at a gate of the NSA’s main campus, and after firing shots, he was surrounded and handcuffed by authorities. One person was hurt and taken to the hospital, according to the Associated Press. President Donald Trump has reportedly been briefed on the matter.

Local news images show the black suspect’s black SUV had collided with a barrier at one of the campus entrances. There appeared to be bullet holes in the windshield, and the car’s airbags had been deployed.
