Cops Release More Footage From Sandra Bland's Time in Jail to Quell Conspiracy Theories

Police have released more footage taken during the three days Sandra Bland spent in a Waller County, Texas jail before she was found hanging from her cell on July 13.

The new footage, which is several hours in length, was released in part to quell conspiracy theories surrounding the death, including one that accuses police of taking Bland's mugshot after she was already dead, Waller County Judge Trey Duhon said Tuesday.

"Sandra Bland was alive and well" until she was found dead on July 13, Duhon said at a press conference. "Because of some of the things that's gone out on social media, this county has been literally attacked."

VICE News has not been able to independently verify the footage, but the first minutes of the video reportedly show the moments Bland is questioned and booked at the station, and has her mug shot taken, according to the Associated Press.

A medical examiner's office determined that Bland's death corresponded to police assertions that the 28-year-old Chicago area woman committed suicide while in their custody. Her family has repeatedly denied the claims.

"Why is it that a 28-year-old woman who had received two job offers take her own life?" Attorney Cannon Lambert, representing the Bland family, asked at an earlier press conference. "Why would she call her mom in excitement about those jobs and take her own life?"

Authorities maintain Bland hanged herself with a garbage bag after she was taken into custody for allegedly assaulting the police officer who pulled her over during a routine traffic stop for improperly changing lanes.

A preliminary toxicology report released Monday found that Bland possessed 18 micrograms per liter of THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, in her blood system.

Waller County District Attorney Elton Mathis told CNN last week that his office had received an "initial report" from the medical examiner's office that also indicated Bland had what appeared to be "cutting scars on the arm."

The Texas Rangers and the FBI are investigating the death.

Previously released footage of Bland's time in jail stirred up a social media storm, with many quick to comment that the video appears to lack continuity and seems to loop, indicating the supplied footage was edited prior to release.

The footage shows Texas state Trooper Brian Encinia engage in a shouting confrontation with Bland and attempting to drag her out of her car, before drawing his stun gun and threatening to "light her up."

In response to questions about gaps and overlaps in the originally posted video, authorities have said the footage was not edited or manipulated.
