Infamous former Toronto mayor Rob Ford announced he has a new tumor, this time growing on his bladder.

Ford, who garnered international headlines in 2013 for admitting to smoking crack cocaine, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer last year, forcing him to drop out of his bid for a second term. He returned to city hall as a councillor and in the spring underwent major surgery to remove the tumor. He recently appeared to be on the mend, having shed weight and lobbing spirited political attacks on the new administration.

But on Wednesday, his office put out a statement revealing the politician had recently been coping with abdominal pain.

"It's not been confirmed that there's a new tumor growing on his bladder," the statement read. "At this time, we are still awaiting testing results to determine if it is related to the previous growths, as well as malignant."

Thank you everyone for your continued thoughts and prayers, I remain optimistic that I will be able to overcome this setback.

As recently as Oct. 1, Ford gave a candid interview to a local radio station in which he talked about how his health has improved.

"I lied, I connived, I did everything to cover up for my addiction," Ford told AM640 host Bill Carroll. "It has been 18 months, I have not had a drop of alcohol or done any drugs since I got out of rehab last year. I have been fighting cancer. I feel better than I've ever felt before even with this cancer."

Ford has been making other headlines, in part due to the release of two new books that chronicled his tumultuous tenure at the helm of the largest city in Canada. The more jaw-dropping accounts have come from his former chief of staff, Mark Towhey, whose book, Mayor Rob Ford: Uncontrollable, details the chaotic, behind-the-scenes attempts to manage Ford's unravelling addiction.

He also appeared alongside outgoing Conservative prime minister Stephen Harper at a rally in the dying days of the federal election. Harper lost.
