VICE News is closely watching policing in America. Check out the Officer Involved blog here.

The NYPD Internal Affairs Office is investigating an incident, caught on video, in which a plainclothes cop appears to repeatedly punch a young teen as officers arrest the boy.

In the video, recorded by a bystander, three uniformed cops are holding the boy and attempting to handcuff him when a plainclothes officer runs in and pummels the suspect. A woman can be heard in the background screaming, "Stop it! Get off him!" and then, "He's 12! He's 12! I can't believe he just did that after everything that's happened" — which is likely a reference to the string of high profile police killings this year, including that of teenager Michael Brown in Ferguson and unarmed black man, Eric Garner, in New York. The woman identifies herself as a lawyer in the video. The suspect's age has not been confirmed.

According to the New York Daily News, the date of the video is not clear, but police said that two suspects, including the boy being punched, were arrested for allegedly assaulting someone with a cane. The video, below, was uploaded on December 17.
