Messi Receives Steph Curry's Signed Jersey, Immediately Playfully Subtle-Disses Him

World class diss from a world class player.

Muchas gracias al fenómeno@stephencurry30 por mandarme su camiseta firmada con el número 30 para felicitarme por los 30 millones en Insta. ¡ cuando llegues a 10 millones te mando la mía! Thanks so much to the great Stephen Curry for sending me a signed jersey to congratulate me for reaching 30 million followers on Instagram. As soon as you get 10M I'll send you mine!

Steph Curry pulled a baffling move the other day. After comparing himself to one of the greatest soccer players to grace the planet last week (hint: not Ronaldo), Curry reached out to Lionel Messi for a completely meaningless reason. After Messi reached 30 million Instagram followers, Curry decided to send the man an autographed jersey to celebrate the occasion.

Here's the original message:

A lil weird, right?

Well, Messi appears to be somewhat flattered about the ordeal, as he decided to send a message back through his own Instagram account, thanking Curry for the jersey. While the photo shows Messi in all smiles, his message below reads something a little more, well, picante:

"Thanks so much to the great Stephen Curry for sending me a signed jersey to congratulate me for reaching 30 million followers on Instagram. As soon as you get 10M I'll send you mine!"

Curry might be the best basketball player on the planet right now, but Messi (who plays as number 10) asserted himself as the best player of the most popular (and competitive?) sport on the planet right now. Curry ain't even at a third the number of Messi's followers. World class subtle diss.

UPDATE:

It seems Steph ('s PR team) posted a longer version of Curry's hello on YouTube that we overlooked. It appears Curry actually asked for a Messi jersey at 10 million follows. So Messi's reply was not a diss so much as a window into the scale of soccer vs. basketball fans in this world. Or, Messi, like us only saw the Instagram video and did his own dis independently. Either way, a clever stunt for both commercially viable superstars (' PR teams).
