117 Million People Didn’t Vote in the 2016 Presidential Election

To mark the one-year anniversary of the 2016 election, VICE Impact will feature facts that illustrate a broken electoral system in America, and how the nation can do better.

The 2016 Presidential election inspired a lot of passion on both sides of the aisle, but despite how strongly Americans felt about Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump it didn’t make much of a dent in voter turnout.

Approximately 117 million registered voters didn’t vote in last year’s presidential election. Also, CNN confirmed that voter participation dropped to a historic low in the past two decades with only 55 percent of Americans going to the polls.

If you have a strong opinion on how the government should be run, don't just talk about it— take action. Make sure you're registered to vote so that you can have your voice heard. Then show up on Election Day in local and federal races to make your vote count. VICE Impact has partnered with TurboVote to get people registered, sign up today to have an effect on tomorrow.
