Icon of the Bristol music scene DJ Derek, real name Derek Morris, has been reported missing by his family who say that haven't seen the 73 year old in three weeks. Derek's niece Jennifer reached out to local newspaper The Bristol Post, as well as Bristol's mayor George Ferguson, on Twitter urging them to help her widen the search for her uncle. She also posted via DJ Derek's Facebook page asking if anyone had seen the selector in the past three weeks, adding that he is being treated as a missing person and the police have been informed.

Morris is a hugely loved character in Bristol for obvious reasons. His reliable blend of reggae, ska, and soul have been filling the city's venues, and major festivals for a number of years. Over the years he has won the support of his home-town in Bristol, largely the area of St Pauls, as well as finding fans in the shape of Massive Attack and Glastonbury Festival. Add to this the inimitable Jamaican patois he MCs with, and the fact he has risen to fame at a much older age than most DJs, and it is easy to see why the news of his disappearance is provoking genuine and widespread sadness. Footage embedded below of his last ever outdoor set showcases his charm.

Anybody with information regarding Derek Morris' whereabouts should contact Avon and Somerset Police via the non-emergency 101 number.
