Watch James Comey Testify Before the Senate Judiciary Committee

The committee, which oversees the FBI, will likely ask the director about his handling of Hillary Clinton's email scandal and the investigation into Russian election hacking.

On Wednesday, FBI director James Comey will testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee in a basic congressional oversight hearing but is expected to be asked about his handling of Hillary Clinton's email scandal and the ongoing investigation into Russia's alleged election meddling, the New York Times reports.

Comey has reportedly been trying to keep a low profile since announcing in March that the FBI was heading up an investigation into Russia's alleged meddling in the election but has never spoken publicly about the bureau's probe into Clinton. The Times reports that on Wednesday he'll likely be asked about a document that may have influenced his decision not to recommend charges against Clinton regarding her use of a private email server while secretary of state.

On Tuesday, the former Democratic presidential nominee spoke at a Women for Women International event and blamed Comey in part for her election loss. According to Clinton, Comey's decision to reopen the investigation into her use of a private email server in late October "raised doubts in the minds of people" who would have voted for her. Trump responded to that statement in a pair of late-night tweets that seemed to criticize his own FBI director and tout his election win.

Comey is set to testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee at 10 AM EST.
