Julien Baker, the 21-year-old Memphis-born singer-songwriter who makes grown adults cry, announced details of her second album this morning. Turn Out the Lights, the follow-up to 2015's brilliant Sprained Ankle, is out October 27 on Matador. The first single from the record is "Appointments," which is glacial on the first listen, beautiful on the second, and devastating if you leave it on repeat. It's a conversation from one side that opens into frank depression and, eventually, bleak resolve. "Maybe it's all gonna turn out alright / And I know that it's not, but I have to believe that it is," Baker sings in a whisper. Then, louder:
