Toronto Police announced on Friday that alleged serial killer Bruce McArthur is facing a sixth murder charge in the death of Skandaraj Navaratnam, who was last seen near the city’s gay village in 2010.McArthur, a 66-year-old landscaper, was arrested in January and is facing five other counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Soroush Mahmudi, Dean Lisowick, Andrew Kinsman, Selim Esen, and Majeed Kayhan.The remains of Navaratnam, who was 40 years old, were among those found in planters seized by police at a home where McArthur mowed the lawn in exchange for storing equipment and tools.The remains of Kinsman and Mahmudi were also discovered among the remains of at least six people.“We have been through upwards of 20 planters,” homicide detective Sgt. Hank Idsinga told reporters at a news conference. He added that the remains of three others have yet to be identified, and that more charges could be laid against McArthur in the future.“We have one further property that we’re working on where we may do excavation,” he said. “We do believe we have multiple murder scenes,” but he wouldn’t say where.Navaratnam was reported missing to police in 2010 by a close friend, and his disappearance was investigated by a special police task force that also looked into the disappearances of two other men who went missing between 2010 and 2012.Idsinga said that his team is combing through hundreds of missing persons cases as part of the investigation, including looking at incidents where a sudden death was recorded.“It’s a very unique type of case … I’m not going to say we’re used to seeing things like this, it’s completely different but we will get through what we have to get through,” he said.
