Watch the Pentagon's briefing on the Syria strikes

Defense Secretary James Mattis briefed the media at the Pentagon about the air strikes happening now.

The U.S. and its allies launched airstrikes on Syrian chemical weapons facilities Friday evening. Initial reports indicated a series of explosions occurring around the capital city of Damascus.

Friday's strikes mark the U.S. military's second attempt to deter Syrian dictator Bashar Assad from using chemical weapons, following reports that his forces launched a chemical attack on the outskirts of Damascus last weekend.
