Two People Shot at Texas Southern University, Second Deadly School Shooting Today

Just as President Obama was arriving in Oregon to meet with families of the victims in last week's deadly shooting at Umpqua Community College, another fatal shooting happened at Texas Southern University, killing one person and wounding another.

The incident took place at 11:30 am local time, 12:30 pm ET at a university apartment complex in southeast Houston, reported the Houston Police Department. Early reports indicated that the incident involved an active shooter, but the police spokesperson said that they had later detained a possible suspect.

TSU spokesperson Eva Pickens said in a statement the TSU campus was on lockdown and classes were canceled today.

Authorities did not release the names of the victims or if they were TSU students.

This is the third shooting in recent days at TSU. On Tuesday night, a gunman shot and injured another person. On Thursday night around midnight, someone fired a gun into a crowd near the same housing complex where today's shooting took place.

A TSU university spokesperson said It is not clear if the incidents are related.

Earlier today, another school shooting took place at Northern Arizona University, killing one person. Today's incidents are the 46th and 47th school shootings so far this year.

Texas recently passed a law allowing concealed carry of firearms on college campuses.
