Muslim fashion is going mainstream — and it's worth billions

The first time Mariana Aguilera put on a headscarf in public, she was nervous about how others would perceive her. But when VICE News caught up with her before a New York Fashion Week show, she was more concerned with what other people were wearing.

“I’m not really focused into whether people are looking at me,” she said. “I’m there with a mind to work.”

Aguilera is a writer and creator of The Demureist, a website about the modest fashion industry – and it’s not just about burkinis. She’s one of many entrepreneurs combining faith and fashion, empowering women while also tapping into a billion-dollar international market.
