A suicide bomber rammed his car into a foreign police vehicle near Kabul's airport on Sunday morning, killing at least three people in the latest deadly attack claimed by the Taliban.

According to Kabul police, the attack targeted a European Union police vehicle, killing one British national who was inside and injuring three other foreigners. The blast also killed two Afghan women in the vicinity and injured at least 18 civilians, including several children.

Video footage from the aftermath of the explosion showed a road strewn with debris and police officers working to clear the area as crowds of onlookers surveyed the destruction. One police officer was filmed carrying a wounded child, who appeared disoriented with a bloodied face, into an emergency vehicle. A man dressed in civilian clothes was also seen helping load another wounded young person into a police vehicle.

According to Al Jazeera, the bombing occurred on a road that leads from the airport to a nearby NATO military installation. A spokesman for the European Union Police Mission in Afghanistan (EUPOL) told AFP that "the one killed inside a vehicle was a foreigner who worked for EUPOL." The EU police are in Kabul to help train local Afghan law enforcement.

"We can confirm that a British national was tragically killed in a terrorist attack in Kabul this morning," a spokeswoman for the UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office told the BBC. "We stand ready to provide consular assistance to the family."

The Taliban released a statement claiming responsibility for the bombing, the latest attack to target foreigners in the Afghan capital. An assault last week on a guesthouse in Kabul left 14 people dead, including nine foreigners.
