This segment originally aired Oct. 19, 2016, on VICE News Tonight on HBO

Women across Argentina wore black and walked off the job to protest the brutal rape and murder of a sixteen-year-old woman earlier this month.

The first ever national women’s strike was organized by “Ni Una Menos” — “Not One Less” — a movement calling attention to violence faced by Argentine women. The strike inspired protests in more than 135 cities around the world.

Argentine Supreme Court Justice, Elana Highton de Nolasco gathered data on murders in Argentina and found that a woman is killed every 37 hours.
