This luxury Panama hotel can't get rid of the Trump Organization

The president's company is fighting hard to remain manager of the waterfront property

A Trump-branded luxury hotel in Panama voted to boot Trump Hotels as the property manager, but the president’s company is fighting the move.

The owners association of Trump Ocean Club International Hotel and Tower in Panama City voted in November to kick out Donald Trump’s company on accusations of mismanagement and breach of contract, the Associated Press reports.

Trump Hotels maintains it has a valid contract to manage the 70-floor, sailboat-shaped tower, which was completed in 2011, and it has filed a $200 million claim against the group to respond to their $15 million arbitration claim. It has also refused to turn over the property’s financial records and waived off competitors like Marriott who’ve shown interest in taking over the hotel.

The owners, meanwhile, think the commander in chief’s company — and his comments and policy positions regarding Latin American immigrants — have tanked their investment in the property, which was already struggling to book rooms and sell condos.

“Our investment has no future so long as the hotel is managed by an incompetent operator whose brand has been tarnished beyond repair,” Orestes Fintiklis, a partner at one of the firms that owns the property, wrote in a letter to fellow owners.

This isn’t the first time hotel and property owners have tried to distance themselves from the U.S. president’s brand. Following an online petition and outrage over Trump’s comments toward women and minorities, three New York apartments stripped Trump’s name from their facades in November, while groups in New York and Toronto recently bought out Trump hotel deals and ditched his branding.
