Theresa May insists Britain will see ”hard Brexit”

This segment originally aired Jan. 17, 2016, on VICE News Tonight on HBO.

After months of mixed signals about her plans, U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May announced last week that she’ll lead Britain to a so-called “hard Brexit.”

“I want to be clear: What I am proposing cannot mean membership of a single market,” May said. “Not partial membership of the European Union, associate membership of the European Union, or anything that leaves us half in, half out.”

But this is only the beginning of Britain’s divorce from the EU. By the end of March, May will trigger Article 50, which starts a 2-year clock ticking on Britain’s exit, she said.
