Trump says he'd beat Oprah in 2020—but he thinks she'd be fun

He couldn't resist getting in on the speculation that she might be running.

Donald Trump took a break from pressing government business — like avoiding a government shutdown and deciding whether to torch the Iran nuclear deal — to get in on all the juicy speculation about a 2020 presidential run by Oprah.

His take: She’s cool, she won’t run, but if she did, she’d lose.

“Yeah, I’ll beat Oprah. Oprah would be a lot of fun,” Trump said during a Tuesday meeting with lawmakers on the Hill. “I know her very well. I like Oprah. I don’t think she’s going to run.”

Two close friends of Winfrey’s told CNN Monday she is “actively thinking” about throwing her hat into the ring, while another, CBS anchor and longtime friend Gayle King, said Oprah is “intrigued” but not considering a presidential campaign.

Oprah, 63, has been urged to run in the past, but celebrities and pundits began intensely speculating she would run in 2020 after the popular media personality gave an impassioned 8-minute speech at the Golden Globes on Sunday calling for racial and gender equality in the face of discrimination and sexual harassment.

Oddsmakers soon began speculating about her chances of victory.

Even first daughter Ivanka Trump was a fan of Oprah’s speech.

Trump recognized political potential in Winfrey decades ago: In 1999, when he was considering a presidential run, he told TV host Larry King who his ideal pick would be for veep.

"Oprah, I love Oprah. Oprah would always be my first choice."
