Police Kill Gunman After Shooting Spree That Left Three Dead in Colorado

Witnesses said a gunman armed with an AR-15 assault rifle killed three people before he died in a shootout with police in Colorado Springs.

A shooting spree left four people dead, including the suspected gunman, on Saturday in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

According to the Denver Post, Colorado Springs Police Department spokeswoman Katherine Buckley said the shooting began at around 8:45am local time in the downtown area of the city, which is located about 70 miles south of Denver. Police reportedly arrived to find a male shooting victim sprawled on the ground, already dead.

Witness Matt Abshire told the Colorado Springs Gazette he called the cops after he saw a gunman in a green jacket armed with an AR-15 assault rifle. Abshire said he tailed the suspect and saw him shoot two women, "one in the jaw, one in [the] chest."

Multiple witnesses told KKTV, a local TV news station in Colorado Springs, that police officers killed the gunman after a shootout in the parking lot of a Wendy's restaurant.

Buckley reportedly said that the suspect fired multiple shots at police before he was killed at around 2:30pm local time. Buckley said the crime scene covers several major downtown streets, and the investigation has been turned over to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office.
