Trump's 2018 budget would be a big win for the U.S. military

President Donald Trump’s proposed budget plan, if passed, would be a big win for U.S. defense – at the cost of other government agencies.

Trump’s budget, titled America First: A Budget Blueprint to Make America Great Again and unveiled on Thursday, proposes a $54 billion increase in defense spending, notable financial cuts to groups like the Environmental Protection Agency and State Department, and termination of funding for programs like the National Endowment for the Arts.

Trump’s blueprint also plans on cutting NPR, PBS and the Meals on Wheels Program entirely.

Congress still has to approve the budget by at least 60 votes, and even if every Republican votes in favor of the budget, eight votes will still have to come from Democrats.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said Thursday, “I don’t see how this budget can survive the light of day.”
