Twin attacks in Kabul continue string of Taliban violence

A double attack hit the city of Kabul on Wednesday, continuing a run of unprecedented Taliban violence this year. At least 15 people were killed and dozens were injured, according to government officials, after a car bomb exploded at a police building and suicide bombers attacked Afghanistan’s main intelligence agency. While Taliban offensives typically slow during the winter, militants have continued carrying out deadly attacks around the country in recent months.

The Afghan government continues to struggle to contain insurgents around the country, but currently control just 57.2 percent of Afghan provinces, a 15 percent drop since 2015.
