Philadelphia Eagles fans trashed their own city to celebrate the team’s first ever Super Bowl victory Sunday.

Police in riot gear were called as revelry turned to looting, arson, multiple injuries, and at least one stolen horse.

Videos of rioters were shared on social media after tens of thousands of fans poured out of homes and bars on to South Broad Street in the wake of the team's triumph over the New England Patriots.

Police are looking into several incidents of vandalism, including smashed store windows, overturned planters and toppled traffic signals. The awning of the Ritz Carlton hotel collapsed after it was scaled by several fans.

No serious injuries were reported, despite incidents of people falling from street lamps.

The hashtag #PhiladephiaPoliceScanner trended early Monday, with Slate gathering a list of some of the more outrageous lines said by officials, including:

  • “I need to get the fire extinguisher out of my trunk. Someone lit a Christmas tree on fire.”
  • “A man jumped off the light pole and landed on his head.”
  • “They just flipped a car over here. If you could get a medical response team over here, I’d greatly appreciate it.”
  • “It’s endless, chief. Endless.”
  • “They’re on top of trash trucks. There is to be no one on top of trash trucks, guys.”

City workers cleaning up the immediate aftermath will likely have to do it again Thursday after the official victory parade with the Vince Lombardi trophy.
