Floods and mudslides are ravaging Peru, leaving dozens dead and approximately 70,000 displaced.
The annual rainy season has brought 10 times more rainfall than usual to areas of Peru. Authorities said a sudden warming of coastal Pacific waters, known as El Niño, was to blame. Peru’s military is airlifting stranded residents to safety and relief workers are handing out supplies in areas that are left without drinking water.
Authorities expect the floods to continue for another month.
