Breaking: Massive Blast in Turkish Capital Leaves Casualties

An explosion rocked the Turkish capital of Ankara on Sunday, killing and wounding an unknown number of people, a senior security official said.

An explosion rocked the Turkish capital of Ankara on Sunday, killing at least 27 people, according to the Associated Press.

CCTV video posted online but unverified by VICE News appears to show a car bomb detonating next to a bus.

Photos from the scene showed several people who appeared to be a dead and severely wounded at a bus stop, across the street from a mangled bus.

Gunfire was also heard after explosion, while ambulances rushed to the area, officials said. Smoke could be seen rising above the area, a Reuters witness said. The blast occurred near the central Guven Park, which adjoins a major transportation hub.

Photos and video posted to Twitter also claimed to show the aftermath of the attack.

The Turkish government imposed a media blackout after the attack.

A bomb detonated next to a Turkish military convoy, including busses transporting troops, in downtown Ankara last month killed 29 people, many of them soldiers. Kurdish militants claimed responsibility for that attack.
