Cleveland authorities have released an extended video of the fatal police shooting of Tamir Rice, the 12-year-old boy who was killed while he carried an airsoft toy gun, which shows cops restraining his 14-year-old sister as she rushes to check on him.

Initial surveillance video released of the November 22 shooting showed police firing their weapons at the boy seconds after they pulled up in their patrol car. Rice died of his wounds in the hospital the next day.

The Northeast Ohio Media Group reported on Wednesday that it had obtained an extended cut of the video, which shows police pushing the boy's sister to the ground and handcuffing her as she ran toward her wounded sibling, who was lying steps away from her on the ground.

A Rice family attorney called the footage, "shocking and outrageous."

"This has to be the cruelest thing I've ever seen," attorney Walter Madison said.

Steve Loomis, president of the city's police union, said Thursday that the incident was a tragedy for the family and officers, but that police were justified in their use of deadly force.

Loomis added that while Rice's sister was evidently upset, police still had to control the situation, as it was a crime scene.

Timothy Loehmann, the first year Cleveland police officer who shot Rice, has been placed on restrictive duty pending an investigation into the incident. The case will be sent to a grand jury, according to local prosecutors.
