Meghan McCain’s husband blasts Twitter over image of gun pointed at her as she grieves for her father

“No one should have to raise a ruckus or highlight this sort of thing publicly to get their attention.”

Meghan McCain’s husband, conservative political blogger Ben Domenech, has publicly criticized Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey for taking too long to suspend an account that posted a meme depicting violence against his wife at her father's funeral.

Domenech first brought attention to the image on Thursday, which shows Meghan McCain crying over John McCain’s casket with a superimposed image of hands pointing a gun at her in the foreground. “America, this ones for you,” the image caption reads. Domenech said that the image had been reported “100+” times.

Domenech said that the account was later made private, then suspended Friday morning.

“Twitter finally suspended this account this morning,” Domenech tweeted Friday afternoon. “No one should have to raise a ruckus or highlight this sort of thing publicly to get their attention.”

Meghan McCain is a media personality who co-hosts the popular ABC daytime talk show “The View.” Her father, longtime Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona, died early this week after a long battle with cancer. After services in his home state Thursday, his casket was flown to Washington for two days of services and tributes at the Capitol. McCain reportedly did not want President Donald Trump nor his former running mate Sarah Palin to attend the services.

Twitter is often criticized for its handling of threatening language and abuse, with some users going so far as to accuse Twitter of punishing the victim rather than the harasser. Twitter did not immediately respond to VICE News’ request for comment.
