It looks the #MeToo movement is finally coming for Woody Allen.The director, who has been dogged with allegations of sexual misconduct decades, has so far avoided the #MeToo undertow, which has exacted swift consequences for Hollywood fixtures like Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey.Mira Sorvino, an actress who won an Oscar in 1996 for her role in Allen’s “Mighty Aphrodite,” penned an open letter Wednesday in the Huffington Post in support of Dylan Farrow, Allen’s adoptive daughter with former partner Mia Farrow. Dylan and her mother had previously accused the writer and director of repeatedly sexually abusing her as a child, charges that have been public since the ‘90s, which Allen denies.“It is difficult to sever ties and denounce your heroes, your benefactors, whom you fondly admired and felt a debt of gratitude toward for your entire career’s existence,” Sorvino wrote, but ultimately, she said, she believes Dylan’s account, and apologized for refusing to do so earlier.“This kind of abuse cannot be allowed to continue,” Sorvino continued. “If this means tearing down all the old gods, so be it.”On Twitter, Farrow accepted the apology.

Sorvino said she’d arrived at her conclusion partially after speaking with Ronan Farrow, Allen’s biological son with Mia, one of the journalists who helped exposed Harvey Weinstein’s history of sexual misconduct and himself a vocal critic of Allen.After the filmmaker won a lifetime achievement award at the Golden Globes in 2014, Ronan tweeted his disapproval.
Sorvino joins others who’ve previously worked with Allen in denouncing his conduct and supporting Dylan.The director and actress Greta Gerwig told the New York Times Tuesday she regretted working with Allen and wouldn’t do so again.“I have not worked for him again, and I will not work for him again,” she said. “Dylan Farrow’s two different pieces made me realize that I increased another woman’s pain, and I was heartbroken by that realization.”The actor Dave Krumholz tweeted a similar statement last week.
