Protests sweep the country after Trump’s DACA decision

Protests erupted in several cities across the country, from L.A. to Denver to New York, almost immediately after news broke Tuesday of President Trump’s decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, known as DACA. Established in 2012 by executive order by former President Barack Obama, DACA has allowed some 800,000 immigrants brought to the U.S. illegally as children to remain legally in the country to work and study.

On Tuesday the Trump administration said it will stop taking new DACA applicants and end the program entirely in six months, unless Congress steps in to replace it.

Hundreds took to the streets in D.C. and in front of Trump Tower in New York, and high schoolers in Denver and Fort Worth walked out in protest. Many more massive demonstrations and walkouts are expected in the coming days and weeks.
