Al Franken "groped my right breast," Army veteran says

A fifth woman has come forward to accuse Minnesota Sen. Al Franken of sexual misconduct.

Stephanie Kemplin, now a 41-year-old Army veteran, says Franken, the former “SNL” cast member, grabbed her breast during a USO tour photo op in 2003 during her Iraq War deployment to Kuwait. She is the fifth woman to accuse Franken and the second one to allege the behavior happened during a USO tour.

“When he put his arm around me, he groped my right breast. He kept his hand all the way over on my breast,” Kemplin told CNN. “I’ve never had a man put their arm around me and then cup my breast. So he was holding my breast on the side.”

Just two weeks ago sports commentator Leeann Tweeden, 44, accused Franken of forcibly kissing and groping her while rehearsing a skit on a 2006 USO tour. Kemplin reached out to Tweeden after Tweeden came forward with her story and then decided to come forward with her own, according to CNN. Two other women have accused the Democratic senator of groping and harassing them at Minnesota political events in 2007 and 2008.

Franken’s sexual misconduct continued after he was elected as Minnesota senator in 2008, according to another woman who has shared a similar, more recent story about her encounter with him. Last week Lindsay Menz, 33, said Franken grabbed her butt while she posed for a photo with him at the 2010 Minnesota State Fair.

The Senate Ethics Committee says it will investigate the claims against Franken. Several senators are calling for the results of that investigation to be made public.

In response to the newest allegation, a Franken spokesperson told CNN, “As Sen. Franken made clear this week, he takes thousands of photos and has met tens of thousands of people and he has never intentionally engaged in this kind of conduct. He remains fully committed to cooperating with the ethics investigation.”
