Emmanuel Macron, France’s other outsider candidate, is the last chance to stop Marine Le Pen

Voters in France went to the polls on Sunday in the first round of the presidential election. The results leave two candidates, centrist Emmanuel Macron and far-right leader Marine Le Pen to face off in a run-off on Sunday, May 7.

Macron is a 39-year-old former Rothschild banker who has never held elected office. He’s an outsider in the political system, or so he’s being pitched. He’s won broad support as a centrist maverick promising to breathe new life into French politics, but he’s also backed by some of the most powerful and influential figures in the French business and political establishment.

VICE News traveled to France to gain a better understanding of the man who has the best chance of beating Le Pen.
