Tesla makes big promises it probably can't keep with new semi-truck

Tesla CEO Elon Musk unveiled the company’s highly anticipated all electric semi-truck last week at SpaceX headquarters in Hawthorne, California. Musk said his company’s trucks will be cheaper to own and maintain than traditional diesels, and because they’re powered by a lithium ion fuel cell, will have zero emissions. Wal-Mart has already said it plans to test 15 of Tesla’s semi-trucks, a small portion of the company’s 6,000 truck fleet.

Musk promises the trucks will be on the road in 2019, but he has a track record of missing deadlines, such as those for the Model 3, which is providing electric motors and other technologies for the semi-truck. Diesel semi-trucks account for 16 percent of U.S. vehicle emissions, and while all electrics will be cleaner than diesel, VICE News Tonight on HBO reports they’re not entirely clean:
