The election could be a tipping point for weed legalization

Nine states, with a combined 82 million residents, are voting Tuesday on ballot initiatives to loosen rules on marijuana. Five of those states, including California, will decide whether to legalize recreational weed for adults 21 and over, and four will vote on medical marijuana proposals.

VICE News and VoteCastr examined the early turnout in Nevada, which is voting on a recreational marijuana ballot measure, and discussed whether this election could provide the momentum necessary to legalize marijuana on the federal level.

We spoke with a cannabis-industry business owner in a Colorado county that’s considering banning marijuana sales, and with a mother who hopes Florida will pass a proposed medical marijuana law so she no longer has to travel out of state to get medicine for her son.
