Transgender teen Gavin Grimm’s right to use the bathroom was appealed all the way to the Supreme Court

VICE News correspondent Antonia Hylton traveled to eastern Virginia to meet Gavin Grimm, a 17-year-old transgender boy who is fighting for his right to use the boys’ bathroom at his high school.
For two months, Grimm used the boys’ bathroom without interference. But after parents sent in complaints to school officials, the school board voted against allowing Gavin to use the boys’ bathroom. A federal appeals court overturned the school board’s vote, but Gavin’s case was appealed all the way to the Supreme Court, which has yet to decide whether it will hear the case.
Opponents of Gavin’s case believe allowing transgender boys and girls to use the bathroom of their choice is inappropriate and will increase violence. But Grimm disagrees.
“I guarantee you no one is going to go through the social stigma, the therapy, the medical transition, no one’s going go through all of that to ultimately take a peek in the girls’ room,” said Grimm.
