Gone are the days when many website hacks could be traced to some teenager in an abandoned warehouse. Today, the majority of hackers are not lone actors but rather state- or group-sponsored actors, according to Kevin Mandia, the CEO of FireEye.FireEye is a Silicon Valley cybersecurity company that protects against advanced cyberthreats. Mandia recently testified in front of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence about Russian hacking in the 2016 election.VICE News reports from inside one of FireEye’s “war rooms,” where a team of experts can reach into any customer’s network to determine if it’s been compromised. When a company or government is hacked, they enlist the help of companies such as FireEye to deep-dive into their file assets and fix the damage. A team of specialists work to close the door the hackers entered through, determine the identity of the hacker, and address the damage done.
